The name of this genus comes from the Greek κάλλος (kállos, beautiful) and στόμα (stóma, mouth), because of the nacreous openings of the shells. In French, they are called troques or calliostomes; in English, calliostoma top snails. These small sea snails belong to the Calliostomatidae family, according to the Taxonomy of Gastropoda (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005)).
