This piece is made from a fragment of mother-of-pearl. The iridescent appearance of mother-of-pearl is due to successive thin layers of calcium carbonate, in the form of aragonite, bound together by conchiolin. Mother-of-pearl is perceived as a lunar material, connected to cycles and protection. Its gradual formation, layer by layer, evokes deep time, healing, and resilience. Nothing is brutal. Everything is patient accumulation, silent repair, and constant adaptation. This is undoubtedly why it has been used as a talisman, amulet, or sacred material in many civilizations.
On this piece, the friction of sand, currents, and the shoreline has gradually sculpted its shape, revealing a raw, pearlescent, irregular surface.
