BISOU — Pair
Description, materials and dimensions
Pair of BISOU earrings
The cowrie, or porcelain shell, or “kiss” because of its mouth-like shape, bears witness to an ancestral memory and carries powerful symbolism. At once an ancient means of exchange since antiquity, a piece of jewelry, a divination tool, and a talisman, the cowrie embodies invaluable cultural wealth, particularly in West Africa. Its central slit, reminiscent of a pupil, has made it a symbol of protection against the evil eye. It is also associated with femininity, fertility, and prosperity.

Each piece of jewelry reveals a fragment of the ocean, shaped by tides, sand, and time. Its natural irregularities make it a singular piece, impossible to reproduce identically. Faithful to the model shown, its organic part will nevertheless reveal its own nuances, relief, and natural details. These delicate variations give each creation a unique character.
